How We Make Money — BrokeBuild

Last updated: October 14, 2026

This page explains, in plain English, how BrokeBuild earns money. No fine print. If a link, placement, or recommendation here or in our newsletter could earn us money, we say so on this page — and we label it where it appears.

1. Affiliate links

Some recommendations are affiliate links. You'll see them most often in a "tool that avoids this" slot at the end of a fix — a hosting, database, or monitoring tool that would have prevented the error you just fixed — and occasionally elsewhere, where a tool genuinely fits the problem.

If you click an affiliate link and buy or sign up, the company may pay us a commission, typically about 15–30% of what you pay, depending on the program. It costs you nothing extra: the price is the same as going to the tool directly. Every affiliate link is labeled where it appears, so you never have to guess. And affiliate status doesn't decide what we recommend — we start from the fix, and only add a tool that actually relates to it.

2. Sponsors

Companies can sponsor placements on the site and in our Friday newsletter. Those placements are always labeled "Sponsored," in words, right where you see them — never disguised as an article.

Sponsors pay for placement, never for our conclusions. A sponsor cannot buy a favorable fix, change what we say about an error, or get a problem with their tool softened or removed. We don't publish fixes we haven't checked, and that rule doesn't bend for anyone paying us.

3. Classifieds in the newsletter

Our newsletter may carry short classified ads from tools, services, or communities that want to reach builders like you. Classifieds are labeled as ads, kept brief and separate from our own content, and written by the advertiser, not by us. A classified is not an endorsement.

4. What's coming later

We may later offer paid products — for example, a paid fixes pack for a particular tool, or a paid tier of the newsletter with extras. If we do, we'll say exactly what it costs and what you get, disclosed the same direct way as everything here. You'd only ever pay by choosing to buy.

5. What we never do

A note on product names

We name products like Lovable, Bolt, Replit, and Cursor because you can't fix an error without naming the tool that threw it. Product names are used across the site to identify tools, not as endorsements. Naming a tool doesn't mean it sponsors us, and being an affiliate partner doesn't earn a tool gentler coverage.
