Privacy Policy — BrokeBuild

BrokeBuild ("we," "us," or "our") publishes plain-English fixes for errors hit when building apps with AI tools, plus a weekly newsletter. This policy explains what we collect, what we do with it, and your rights. Questions? Email hello@brokebuild.com.

What we collect

Your email address, when you subscribe

If you subscribe to "One fix, every Friday," we collect your email address so we can send it. Subscriptions are handled through our newsletter provider, beehiiv: when you enter your address in a signup form, it is passed to beehiiv, which stores it, manages your subscription, and sends our emails for us. We do not ask for your name or payment information to subscribe to the free newsletter. Please do not send us sensitive information by email.

Basic analytics about site visits

We use Cloudflare for hosting and analytics. When you visit, Cloudflare may collect basic, privacy-respecting information for us, such as pages viewed, visit counts, referring sites, and technical details needed to deliver and secure the site, like browser type and country-level location. We use this in aggregate to see which fixes help. We do not use it to build cross-site tracking profiles, or combine it with broker or advertising data.

Anything you email us

If you write to hello@brokebuild.com, we receive what you send: your address, message, and details you include, such as error messages or tool versions. We use it to reply and improve our fixes. Please avoid sending passwords, API keys, or other secrets; if you do by accident, tell us and we will delete the message.

What we never do

• We never sell or rent subscriber data — ever. Your email address is not a product.
• We never buy, rent, or import mailing lists. Every address we hold came from someone who subscribed.
• We do not share your personal information with sponsors or affiliate partners. If you click a link and buy from another company, that transaction is between you and them, under their policies.

Cookies

We keep cookies to a minimum. This site uses only strictly necessary or functional cookies where they are needed at all — for example, for security, load balancing, or a basic preference. Our Cloudflare analytics are privacy-respecting and do not create cross-site tracking profiles, and where such analytics do not require a tracking consent banner, we operate them without one, as applicable under the laws that apply to us. We set no advertising cookies and allow no third-party advertisers to set cookies here. You can block or delete cookies in your browser; our fixes will remain readable.

Who processes data for us

• beehiiv — our newsletter provider. It stores subscriber addresses, manages subscriptions and unsubscribes, and sends our emails, under its own privacy policy.
• Cloudflare — our hosting and analytics provider. It delivers and protects this site and provides the aggregate analytics above, under its own privacy policy.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or if necessary to protect the security of the site and our readers. We do not disclose personal information for other purposes without telling you.

Your rights

• Unsubscribe anytime, in one click. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link. No login, no survey, no follow-up marketing.
• Access and deletion. Email hello@brokebuild.com to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or to ask us to delete it. We will respond within a reasonable time and confirm deletion, subject to any limited information we must retain for legal or security reasons.
• Correction. If your information is inaccurate, email us and we will correct or remove it.

Readers in the EU and UK have rights under the GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and the right to complain to a supervisory authority. California residents have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what is collected, to request deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising them. Because we never sell personal information, there is no sale to opt out of. We honor GDPR and CCPA rights as described here.

Retention

We keep subscriber addresses while you remain subscribed. When you unsubscribe or ask for deletion, your address is removed or suppressed in line with beehiiv's processes, retaining only what is needed to honor your request and comply with the law. Emails you send are kept as long as needed to handle your question, then deleted. Aggregate, non-identifying analytics may be kept longer.

Children

BrokeBuild is written for adult builders and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has subscribed or sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy if we change providers or add a feature. We will update the date above and post the revision here. If a change materially affects subscriber information, we will mention it in the newsletter.
